2. College Football Playoff Showdown #2: Michigan vs. Alabama
In a clash of titans, the No. 1 Michigan Wolverines (13-0) are set to face the No. 4 Alabama Crimson Tide (12-1) on New Year’s Day at the Rose Bowl, with the winner advancing to the National Championship. Anticipation is high as experts analyze the strengths and weaknesses of both teams. Let’s delve into why Michigan might emerge victorious and why Alabama could secure the win.
Why Michigan Will Beat Alabama
J.J. McCarthy's Stellar Performance: Michigan's star quarterback, J.J. McCarthy, concluded an impressive season. McCarthy's exceptional stats, including 2,630 passing yards, 19 touchdowns, and a remarkable 74.2% completion rate, position him as a key player. His dual-threat ability, combining accurate passing with ground mobility, poses a significant challenge.
Ground Dominance: Michigan's rushing attack, led by Blake Corum, has been a force to be reckoned with. Ranking No. 11 in time of possession, Michigan strategically controls the clock. Corum, with 24 rushing touchdowns and 1,028 yards, spearheads an offense that excels in crucial moments, exemplified by their run-heavy strategy against Penn State.
Elite Defense: Michigan's defense has been outstanding throughout the season, boasting top rankings in various categories such as scoring defense, defensive touchdowns, total defense, and more. The Wolverines' defensive prowess could pose significant challenges for Alabama's offense.
Why Alabama Will Beat Michigan
Saban's Legacy: Nick Saban, often hailed as the greatest of all time (GOAT), brings a wealth of experience and success to the table. Alabama's eighth College Football Playoff appearance, coupled with Saban's seven national championships and a 9-4 record in CFP games, gives the Crimson Tide a seasoned advantage. Saban's 1-0 record against Michigan's Jim Harbaugh adds another layer of complexity.
Dynamic Quarterback - Jalen Milroe: Alabama's Jalen Milroe, finishing No. 6 in Heisman voting, presents a dynamic and multifaceted threat. With impressive passing and rushing statistics, Milroe's ability to exploit defenses both through the air and on the ground makes him a formidable adversary. Michigan will need a solid defensive strategy to contain Milroe's versatility.
Formidable Alabama Defense: Alabama's defense, ranked No. 18 in total defense, No. 17 in scoring defense, and No. 23 in passing defense, stands out as one of the fastest and most formidable. This could pose challenges for Michigan's offense, particularly quarterback J.J. McCarthy, who faced struggles in the CFP last year.

“Sports” Moments of the Holidays
One thing we love about sports is the funny moments they deliver, here are some rapid fire viral memes, videos, and posts for your enjoyment!
The Death of a Pop-Tart
Every year, each Bowl Game has its own mascot related to its Corporate Sponsor, so, of course, the Pop-Tarts Bowl in Orlando would feature a life sized Pop-Tart. The Pop-Tart got frisky, inspired millions, and ultimately sacrificed itself on live TV so that the winning team could enjoy the edible mascot. This little Pop-Tart took the internet by storm, here are some of our favorite tweets:

Twitter is cool because you can log off to go pick someone up from the airport and have dinner, and when you come back your entire timeline is nothing but people worshipping an anthropomorphic poptart that was paraded around then ritualistically sacrificed at an altar

I asked if it was offensive to eat a Pop-Tart in front of the @PopTartsBowl mascot and then its handler yelled out “ITS THEIR DREAM” and then the mascot grabbed a Pop-Tart out of my hand and started force-feeding it to me while making soft grunting noises
